The Gmail address is old, been around a long time, and gets 50-100 mail list / marketing emails a day. The iOS Mail app is horrible at discerning which are important (from real people I know or critical alerts, such as banks, airlines etc.) and the bazillions of marketing emails. Also check settings in Gmail under your account name, not general settings, all the way at the bottom there a sync Gmail option, make sure that's checked.
